Shermaine was born and raised in Atlantic City. She spent ten years in Philadelphia, Pa and returned to her roots in 1984. She is the proud mother and
step-mother of Brian and Ferris. She is the loving wife of Rodney J. C. Gary. She began her career at Pennwalt Corporation as a bench chemist.
She later ventured into the restaurant business serving as general managers at several establishments.
In 1985 she found her true passion when
she worked as an advocate for troubled youth. In 1990, she became the first Director of Health & Human Services for the City of Atlantic City.
She is the founder and Executive Director of the Atlantic County Council of Youth Programs, Inc. which provides such programs as, the Rites of
Passage Programs, the Atlantic City Theater Guild, the Youth Entrepreneur Program and the Venice Park Basketball Program. Shermaine presently
serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Empowerment Tools Coalition, Inc.
Shermaine is a member of Second Baptist Church where she serves as an advisor to the Jr. Usher Ministry, a Trustee, a member of the I.S.
Cole Organization for Scholarship aide and the President of District #14.
She has had the pleasure to serve on many boards throughout the State and has been appointed to several blue ribbon committees.
